Francesco Bertocco (Casorate Primo, 1983).

Bertocco’s video Comunitad focuses on the theme of healing and medicine, highlighting its identity-affirming character. His focus goes to the contrast between traditional medicine and modern Western-style medicine.

In Comunitad the artist focuses on Chile: a country where the ethnic tension between the majority population and original ethnic groups, such as Mapuche, is unresolved.

Addressing the topic of political, ideological and socio-cultural choices underlying the concept of healing and medicine, Bertocco thus combines the issue of healing with the colonial and post-colonial dynamics that mark today’s world in all its aspects.

Starting from redefining scientific documentary as a genre, the artist investigates places of care and scientific research as complex systems, analysing their internal dynamics.
